Aruhi, a mortgage company in Japan, released the results of a survey that ranks areas by station in terms of their overall livability.  Kawaguchi in Saitama Prefecture was at the top of the list, making it  the “most livable area” in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Kawaguchi was noted to have good access to central Tokyo and reasonable property prices. Akabane, in Tokyo’s Kita Ward, placed second, followed by Tama-Plaza in Yokohama in third.

The results were tallied based on the number of home loans issued by Aruhi in each area between August 2018 and July 2019. Real estate experts, in conjunction with Aruhi, based their criteria on factors such as environment, transportation, and cost of living. Kawaguchi was recognized for its redevelopment of shopping districts in addition to its cost and access to transportation. The city jumped three spots this year from its previous ranking of 4th place.

Akabane, which previously ranked first, was chosen for its urban development that emphasizes child-care facilities in addition to its easy access to the city center. In third place, Tama Plaza was chosen due to its living environment, which includes wide sidewalks, parks, and a shopping complex directly connected to the train station.

In fourth place was the Kashiwanoha Campus in Kashiwa City, Chiba, which boasts extensive commercial facilities and numerous medical institutions. Iriya in Taito-ku, Tokyo, ranked fifth, with close proximity to the JR Yamanote Line station, giving it easy access for commuters.
