Tokyo Kantei Co., Ltd. has released a list ranking the areas surrounding Tokyo Metro train stations by density of condominiums. The ranking was based on the number of registered existing condominiums within a 560 meter radius of each train station as of June 2019.
Hamamachi Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line came in as the densest area, boasting approximately 136 condominiums, around 5.7 times the number recorded in 1989. Also topping the list are Ningyocho Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, with 121 condominiums, and Suitenmiyamae Station on the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line, with 115 condominiums.
In a separate ranking of stations by sheer number of condominiums, Kachidoki Station on the Tokyo Metro Oedo Line came in at #1 with 10,556 units, an increase of 9.6% compared to 1989. This station was recently opened in the Chuo-ku area in 2000, and there have been a number of high rise condominiums built in the area due to new housing deregulations. Musashi Kosugi station came in at #2 with 9,010 units, a 20% increase since 1989, mainly due to the redevelopment of factories into new condominiums.
A spokesperson for Tokyo Kantei Co., Ltd. stated, “It is expected that in the future, less people will commute via train, so the value of condominiums may not necessarily be influenced by proximity to train stations. Instead, other factors may become more influential in property value”.
